And our new bass player is...
We are pleased to introduce our new bass player, Rick Hedges. Rick comes to us from the Cascade Crash and has played in different bands with Jenni Lynn and James. Right now, we're busy preparing new songs for the Ash Street show on the 30th, which will be Rick's debut with Palatine Hill.
Two weeks to learn a mess of songs. Two weeks 'til he hits the stage. I think he'll be ready by then. Welcome aboard, mate!

Jeff Jordan Birthday and Swan Song Extravaganza!
Alright folks, here's the dang deal: On Thursday, February 1st, you are invited to Jeff Jordan's Birthday Bash-slash-Swan-Song at Alberta St. Pub. That's right. It's Mr. Jordan's birthday (or close enough). And, sadly, it's also his last show with Palatine Hill, before embarking on a solo career. Possibly under the heading of "Jeff Jordan," or maybe appearing as "Midwestern," depending on the situation.
In any event, we wish him all the freakin' best! And you do too, right? So it would be great to see you at the show. This will be your last chance to see J-Jo with a bass strapped 'round his neck. And your last chance to buy him a shot as a P-Hiller...
We play 7 until 9pm, so don't be late! Oppah!

New Music, New Album
It's a new year, and that means the boys and girls of Palatine Hill will be going into the studio over the next few months to record a new album. Advance word has it that the new tunage is good. An unnamed source, speaking on the condition of anonymity, said: "There are a lot of different moods happening in the songs... you'll laugh, you'll cry. You'll pee your pants."
It was also reported that, in spite of the dampness, "you will like it anyway."
Huh.
Well, there you go. Seems pretty straighforward to me... any questions?

Palatine Hill: The Band That Cares
Palatine Hill was proud to take part in the 12th Annual Dove Lewis Dogtoberfest at the Lucky Lab, benefitting... none other than the Dove Lewis Animal Clinic.
Dogs got washed. Beer was drunk. Music was played. Money was raised. Good times were had.
The event raised about 17 katrillian dollars for a very worthy cause, and the Band That Cares was honored to have been invited to take part in such a worthy endeavor. Thanks all around to the staff and the army of volunteers that made the day a ringing success.
Woof!

Miss Jenni Lynn: The Power of Groove
Palatine Hill is proud to announce that the multi-talented, multi-instrumentalist, multi-everthinged Miss Jenni Lynn has joined the band, taking over the drum throne. Look for Miss Jenni to be layin' down a snakey groove on the skins. Whilst simultaenously singing harmony. She's talented enough to play cowbell with one arm and do a bass solo with the other, but too tasty to even consider it.
Unless there's a request...
Welcome, Miss Jenni!

Bryan Spreads His Wings
It was a bittersweet show last night at the Ash Street, as P-Hill's Bryan McGeeney performed his swan song with the band. Bryan has relocated to Hood River, where he hopes to kick his music career -- and his business, 10-Speed Coffee -- into hyper-drive. There is no doubt that he'll shine in Hood River even brighter than he did here. We'll miss you, Bryan! And wish you all the happiness.
Shine on, you crazy diamond...
(Looking at the silver-lining, there wasn't much typing involved in this entry... cut-n-paste. Ya gotta love it.)

Melanie Spreads Her Wings
It was a bittersweet show last night at the Alberta St. Pub, as P-Hill's Melanie Hamiel performed her swan song with the band. Mel will be jetting off to L.A. in a few days, where she hopes to kick her music career into hyper-drive. There is no doubt that she'll shine in California even brighter than she did here. We'll miss you, Mel! And wish you all the happiness.
Shine on, you crazy diamond...
And a big "thank you!" to Scott McCaughey of the Minus 5 (and Young Fresh Fellows, R.E.M.) for taking part in the festivites. "McOi" graciously accepted calls to get up and perform, and busted out three songs to cap the evening. Bravo!

P-Hill + Supersuckers = The New Sonny and Cher
Palatine Hill's newest and female-est bandmember, Melanie Hamiel, jumped onstage with the Supersuckers last night to knock out a killer duet with the Sucker's Eddie Spaghetti. After singing "Hungover Together," Eddie said to Mel (and the ecstatic crowd) "Wow, that was good! Most people can't pull it off, but you definitely did!" Melanie did her best Cher hair-flip... and that thing where she sticks her tongue in her cheek, and then punched Sonny in the arm.
Congrats to Mel, for representin'... and with such style.
And while we're doing the "I love you, man" whiskey-talk thing, we should point out that the boys of Palatine Hill did not miss any notes. And that's enough to make me say, "I just really love you guys, man. All of ya...."
And if that isn't enough (and surely... it is), a special thanks to new P-hill tribe member Ms. January "Capricornstein", for giving up two nights of her life to run the band's merchandise table. January also whipped up some sharp new band stickers, suitable for defacing club bathrooms all over this great land of ours. Thanks, JC! We owe you... want a free sticker?

Supersuckers! Two Big Nights! St. Paddy's Day! And The-Day-Before-St.-Paddy's-Day!
Palatine Hill will open for the legendary Supersuckers at the River City Saloon in Hood River on two nights: Thursday, March 16 and Friday, March 17 (St. Patrick's day).
How could this turn out to be anything but a good time for all?
Did we mention that this show will be Palatine Hill, followed by the Supersuckers? On St. Freakin' Patrick's Day??

The Debut of the New P-Hill
The new-look received a hearty welcome when they hit the stage last night for the debut of "P-Hill, Mark II". Melanie Hamiel (fomerly of Midwestern), has joined forces with the band to add a touch of class and harmony to an otherwise all-boy unit. Why? Because nobody likes a "boy band" that doesn't do choreography. And past attempts at Backstreet Boy-izing the band failed, leaving only one alternative: going to a multi-gender model.
Meanwhile, Melanie can sing. Really well. Look for Mel to jump onstage at select moments during future gigs.

Area Man Makes Good
Palatine Hill's own Tucker Jackson played pedal steel guitar on 6 tracks on the new self-titled Minus 5 CD (aka "The Gun Album"). The "pop collective" supergroup, led by Scott McCaughey (R.E.M., Young Fresh Fellows), features fellow bandmates from R.E.M., Wilco, Decemberists, and other luminaries. Reviews have been positive: NPR Radio "Fresh Air" Review (includes snippets of 4 songs) New York Times Review

Low Living CD Release
Palatine Hill's new CD is out! Titled "Low Living", it's about living low. And close to the ground. Anyway, it's technically a 5-song "Extended Play" (EP) rather than a full length CD. Therefore, this gem of an EP can be yours for the low, low introductory price of only $5! That's only a buck a song. CD's should be available at CDbaby.com (we'll let you know when they have them), so for now, the only way to get one is to come to a show. So.... check back here for an announcment letting you know when CDBaby.com is ready to accept your credit card.

Yee-Haw! Gram Parson's Tribute Show
That's right, Palatine Hill will be playing at the Gram Parsons Tribute show at Berbati's on Thursday, Nov. 6th Also playing are Dave Gleason's Wasted Days, Cosmic Salvation Band, Miss Michael Jodell, Clampitt Gadiss & Buck, Sons and Lovers.
After the show, we're all going to overdose, have our freinds hijack the body (enroute to Lousiana for burial) from an unsuspecting airport shipping clerk. They'll take the body to the Joshua Tree desert, douse it with gasoline and burn it. Because that's just the kinda fellah Gram was, circa 1973.

P-Hill Plays MusicFest NW, Gets Contact Buzz
The boys enjoyed playing the MusicFest NW festival tonight, and especially enjoyed meeting the other acts backstage. Such as Jamaica's own rasta-machine, Israel Vibration, who rolled up in their brand new 36-foot Barco-Lounger Touring Bus, whisked by flashing great smiles, said "Hi, mon!", and then hid out in their private backstage dressing room which was stocked with Guinness. A dressing room with a closed door that was not, in fact, airtight enough to keep P-Hill and anybody within a 3-city-block radius from acquiring a bodacious contact buzz.

Pabst Blue Ribbon Joins the P-Hill Fan Club
Hey, who is that band in the Pabst Blue Ribbon ad in this week's Willamette Week? It looks a lot like Palatine Hill to me, but then... I've had a few PBR's.
We've been visitin' their camp for a long time. Now they're visitin' ours. I mean, seriously, does it get any better than that?

"Palatine Hill kicks its spurs into the... despair and grit of Americana. But, despite its penchant for normally soft-spoken instruments like banjo, fiddle and mandolin, the local five-piece also brings a rock sensibility to its roughhousing roots."

Happy Anniversary To Palatine Hill !!
The band celebrated it's first anniversary today. It was this day in 2002 that we had our first practice, and so far nobody has killed anybody else. We haven't even had a lover's quarrel. At least that I'm aware of. Nor has anybody found themselves 'with child'.
Cheers and congratulations all around!

Palatine Hill is set to go into the studio this Spring to record the all-important breakout Debut CD. Please let us know if you have any wise-ass thoughts as to a good title for this project. Current working title is "Vat Ist Dis INVASION?", although that reference is so last year that nobody could possibly go for it.
